He teaches at Harvard College, Harvard Summer School and Harvard Extension School. He has been the Monan Professor of Theater Arts at Boston College. He has also been a private acting coach for the past twenty years, focusing on monologue work, scene study, audition techniques, voice work and public speaking.
In 2007 he received the IRNE (Independent Reviewers of New England) Best Actor Award. In 2010 he received the Robert Brustein Award for Sustained Achievement in Theater. He has been awarded the Harvard University Certificate of Teaching Excellence every year since 2010. He was the winner of the 2015 Petra Shattuck Excellence in Teaching Prize from the Harvard Extension School. He was voted one of Harvard’s Favorite Professors by the 2017, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023 Graduating Classes. In 2022 he won the Harvard Extension Student Association’s Spirit Award as Favorite Professor. In 2025 he was the recipient of Phi Beta Kappa's Alpha Iota Prize for Excellence in Teaching at Harvard.
