“This is not a time to live without practice.” - Alice Walker
“and the grass grows” comes out of the desire to make work out of relationship and contemplation. Based on the experiences of Troy Anthony and Mei Ann Teo over the past 20 months, the ritual play delves into the most inner parts of their mindscapes, with an ensemble of “thoughts” who embody refracted news, voices in their lives, and memories. Alice Walker’s text, “This was not an area of large plantations” is central to the exploration, rooting us in a practice towards our mutual and collective liberation.
