'Tis Pity She's a Whore and the "This is My Womxnhood Project" is a socially-engaged public art and theatrical project that seeks to explore gender, language, and the body; how the three are mapped onto each other to create violence and to blur the lines between public and private, harming female-bodied, trans*, and gender non-conforming individuals’ autonomy and safety. In our desire to explore bodily autonomy, we are taking what is traditionally private - the theatrical rehearsal process - and making it public, on our own terms. These public rehearsals, happening on October 20th, October 31st, and November 17th in different locations around campus, allow unsuspecting and suspecting audience members like you to encounter and interact with the show in the moment. We hope to disrupt campus life with our art, to offer up conversation starters, and to raise awareness of the violence, abuse, and trauma that members of our community face everyday. The full production, inspired in part by the discoveries made alongside you all at the public rehearsals, will take place in the Loeb Experimental Theater, December 1st-9th.
