TDM Performance Workshop: Film Acting

In this workshop, students will learn how to approach film and television performance with confidence, preparation, and a clear understanding of how to work in front of a camera. We will explore what makes a performance authentic on camera using real film and television material, as well as touching on audition technique. Students will work on breaking down sides, making strong and specific choices, adjusting quickly to direction, and delivering natural, engaging performances. Classwork will cover self-tape technique, eyelines, framing, slates, and other practical skills actors need.

This event is open to all Harvard undergraduates.

We ask that you provide either an artistic resume or a brief bio and description of your goals when registering in order to allow Chris Stahl to prepare for this workshop. 

Clothing/Presentation Guidance:

• Don't wear black tops, and avoid busy patterns or large logos. 

• You will be filmed during this workshop, so be comfortable with how you look and what you are wearing on camera. 

   

ABOUT CHRIS STAHL

Chris Stahl (they/he) is a professional actor and educator whose work spans classical and contemporary theatre, film, and television. They have performed extensively in New York and at leading regional theatres across the country, including Lincoln Center, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Theatre for a New Audience, and Trinity Repertory Company. They have been honored with awards and grants for their work, including from the National Endowment for the Arts. On screen, Stahl’s film and television credits include The Invisible Girl (Cannes Film Festival recognition), The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon), The Drama (A24) and The Provider (Beverly Hills Film Festival Award Winner), and numerous commercials. A proud member of Actors’ Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA, they also hold an MFA in Acting from Brown University/Trinity Repertory Company, and a BA in Theatre Performance from Fordham University at Lincoln Center.They have had the privilege of teaching at numerous educational institutions such as Brown, Emerson, Dean, Interlochen; as well as casting workshops with Boston Casting and Actors Connection.  Their teaching emphasizes truthful listening, on-camera technique, professional preparedness, and the integration of classical training with contemporary storytelling. They are passionate about helping students develop artistic rigor and sustainable practices for careers in performance, both for the stage and the screen.
