Theater, Dance & Media's Perspectives on Performance welcomes artist Peter Mills Weiss to speak on behalf of his and collaborator Julia Mounsey's body of work! Join us and Weiss for "authenticity as material" and a discussion on how their art wrestles with questions of cruelty, authenticity, deception, entertainment, and power. Free and open to all!

Peter and Julia get a lot of questions around whether or not their work is real or fake. They are not particularly interested in that question, but! They are interested in the question of how the manipulation of truth, or of the feeling of the "REAL", is a way of offering a counter to the judeo-christian military brigade style method of theatrical production. But the answer to the question is that their work is fake. Just to head that off at the pass.

For this Perspectives on Performance event, Peter will be the featured guest speaking on behalf of this acclaimed duo. 

More about Peter and Julia

Peter Mills Weiss and Julia Mounsey collaborate together on works for the stage. Their work wrestles with questions of cruelty, authenticity, deception, entertainment, and power. Their plays have been presented at Under the Radar at the Public Theater, La MaMa, JACK, Soho Rep, the Deutches Schauspielhaus, and the Radikal Jung festival at the München Volkstheater. They were both members of the 2017–2019 Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab, the 2017–2018 Devised Theater Working Group at the Public Theater, and were Baryshnikov Arts Center Resident Artists in 2019. Their play, while you were partying, was a finalist for the New York Drama Critic's Circle Award.
