#  Training Module Schedule 

 



 Concentrators are required to attend tech and production training modules as soon as possible after enrollment in the concentration and before their senior year. These modules equip students with basic knowledge of theater production and ensure their safety and that of others while working in and on productions. Training modules are open to potential concentrators, as well as those students wishing to gain more knowledge in theater production. Registration is required. To register for any session, click on each module below.

 **Friday, February 15, 2019  
10am-12pm**  
[Module: Theater Safety](/event/tech-production-training-module-theater-safety-2)  
This seminar provides an introduction in to the basics concepts of safety. Topics covered include OSHA, NIOSH, EH&amp;S, industry safety standards and how they apply in the context of TDM. Specific TDM safety protocols will be discussed, along with an orientation training on general theatre equipment on stage and in the shops. Closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing recommended.

Explore the techniques, tools, job responsibilities, and practice of stage management. Learn how to set up the room, document and report, helm the tech process, and run a show when things go wrong on stage. Includes hands-on examples of blocking documentation.

 **Friday, February 22, 2019  
10am-12pm**  
[Module: Scenic Production](/event/tech-production-training-module-scenic-production-2)  
This seminar will provide insight into the scenic roles and responsibilities of a production team, from Set Designer to Stage Hand. Theater architecture vocabulary will be covered. Scenic Production information/handouts will include scenic safety, construction, painting, props, labor estimations, and material choices.

 **1pm-3pm**  
[Module: Costume Design](/event/tech-production-training-module-costume-design-1)  
Examine the roles and processes of a costume designer, discuss collaborations, design aesthetics, and translate your design for a costume shop. How does a designer use cut, color, fabric, trim, styling, pattern, research and accessories to tell the story of the play or musical? Includes analyzing film clips featuring strong design, and evaluate costume renderings to determine character and artistic process.

 **Friday, March 1, 2019**

This seminar will provide insight into the lighting roles and responsibilities of a production team, from Lighting Designer to Electrician. Lighting Production information/handouts will include lighting safety, installation, lighting plot paperwork, labor estimations, and instrument selection.

 **1pm-3pm**  
[Module: Producing](/event/tech-production-training-module-producing-0)  
Learn about the process of developing a show from obtaining the property, rights and royalties, contracting, setting up the production company, raising money, creating a budget, engaging a creative team, and running the show. Learn about collaborations with creatives, management, marketing, operations, and venue. Involves studying current and recent Broadway shows.

 **Friday, March 15, 2019  
10am-12pm**  
[Module: Audio/Video Projection Design](/event/tech-production-training-module-audiovideo-projection-design-1)  
This seminar will provide insight into the Audio/Video roles and responsibilities of a production team, from Sound or Projections Designer to Sound or Video Engineer. Content creation and editing will be discussed. A/V Production information/handouts will include A/V safety, installation, signal flow paperwork, labor estimations, and equipment selection.

 **1pm-3pm**  
[Module: Administrative Structures; Commercial and Non-Profit](/event/tech-production-training-module-administrative-structures-commercial-and-non-profit)  
Delve deeper into the administrative structures of various for-profit and not for profit models. Examine job opportunities in artistic, management, marketing, education, production, front of house, and other job fields in the performing arts. Includes looking at unions, collective bargaining associations, service organizations, and advocacy.
