Each semester, we have the honor of profiling some of the incredible professional artists involved in the TDM production. Our next artist spotlight this fall shines on **Linda Wingerter**! Linda is working as the Tabletop Puppet and Shadow Puppet Designer & Builder on the fall TDM production, *The Poacher*. Check out more of Linda’s work at [www.stringpullers.com](http://www.stringpullers.com/).

**What inspires you as an artist and creative?**

I'm inspired by the motion of the things of the world- animals, humans, plants, earth, weather, especially the subtle things we don't usually pay attention to. Building and performing puppets helps me better see the life (animate and inanimate) around me. I'm fueled by transferring my life energy into objects, I don't know why. When I can invite a subtle shift of weight or a slight sway into a puppet that seems to capture an essence of something, I am deeply satisfied.

**What excites you about this TDM production?**

I jumped at the chance to work with Kate Brehm and to be part of the hands-on development session with the designers. It's not often puppet artists get to work with each other this way, and for me it's where I learn and grow the most. Folklore and fairy tales have been foundational in my arts career, so the story was a draw as well.

**What has it been like collaborating with the team on this project?**

This is a great team! Kate and the designers all have such a rich puppet theater background, getting to know them and learn from their work has been wonderful. I really enjoyed being on site during tech to work with the great TDM crew and students. One of my favorite moments was in the summer when we got together to build the very raw paper and cardboard mock-ups, accompanied by Sxip's emerging composition which was so inspiring.

**What projects are you working on next?**

I'm working on projected shadow sequences for Tom Lee's *Akutagawa* which starts a US tour in January. I'm teaching shadow puppet workshops online and in person for the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival. I'll be at several film festivals next year with my puppet film, *Misophonia*. In 2023 I'll be working on more short shadow and paper puppet films from my studio in Ithaca, NY.
