Join Harvard College Media Fellow Young Joo Lee in a Master Class on Friday, March 29 at 3-5pm. The Master Class will be in the format of an artist talk and discussion about how fantasy and imagination can be a way of portraying sociopolitical content. Lee will screen her recent animation works and demonstrate a work-in-progress in Virtual Reality.

YJL

Young Joo Lee combines inspiration from her dreams with personal and political histories to create drawings, sculptures, performances and video installations. Animation became one of her primary tools because of its endless capacity to merge reality and fantasy. Scroll drawings on paper, performance and digital puppetry mix to create imagined journeys. The subjects of the narratives of her works derive from her experiences as an immigrant living in Germany and USA, and her observations on how an individual’s perception of reality is shaped by the cultures, genders, nationalities and histories one identifies themselves with. Lee’s work is a glimpse into how our environments are not only outside of us, but how they truly alter our perception and inform our personal identities.
