KBPerforming with Puppets

Learn how the powerful tool you own, your body, can serve you in manipulating puppets and objects. Kate Brehm’s master class, Performing With Puppets, introduces movement techniques for character and story creation through your body’s relationship to itself, your puppet, and the world around you and it. Use energy inside and outside your body to bring life to the inanimate. Connect with your audience by setting their expectations. Use momentum and suspension to infuse a scene with drama. Carve theatrical space to create compelling relationships. Learn how to partner with your fellow performers as a leader or creative follower, and know which part to play when. This class uses simple objects to introduce basic movement dynamics. It then moves on to playing with bunraku-style, multi-operator puppets to make those ideas come to life.

Who should come to this class?
puppeteers, actors, directors, dancers, and anyone interested in performing with objects. No experience necessary.

What should you wear?
Please come prepared to move in comfortable clothing that does not feature words or images. We will work in bare feet.
