Harvard Dance Center Cypher

The Harvard Dance Center, in partnership with the Office of Diversity of Education and SuAysha Upchurchpport, invites you to a special Cypher to kick off 2019! 

–Informal dance jam in a judgment-free zone
–Live drumming
–Soul food
–Meet students, staff, and faculty from Dance and across the university

4:30-5:00pm 
Mix, mingle, and eat food

5:00-6:30pm 
Cypher led by Aysha Upchurch AIE'15 and accompanied by musician Akili Jamal Haynes 

Cypher participants are welcome to stay for the first class of Contemporary I starting at 6pm for free! 

What is a cypher?
A cypher is freestyle dance jam where an open circle is created and people take turns dancing in the center. The cypher (or cipher) has deep, long-standing cultural roots in hip hop culture, African tradition, and even religious beliefs.

NO FORMAL DANCE TRAINING NECESSARY. ALL ARE WELCOME!

Location: Studio 1 is located on the main floor of the Harvard Dance Center.
