Harvard University Committee on the Arts (HUCA) presents *Emerging Ideas on Art and Society*, which invites an artist, a thinker, or a critic to come and share their doubts, questions, incomplete thoughts, and challenges about what art and society are today. A small group of students and faculty will gather to have an informal but intense conversation with the guest. A short text will be shared in advance to inform the conversation. While we expect active interventions, the guest leads the dramaturgy of the event with the questions they bring to the table that day.

This conversation’s guest is choreographer, artist, writer, and educator **Jonathan González**. Jonathan González is an artist whose practice considers the body as a site of relation, history, and insurgent possibility. Their work has been presented by the Whitney Museum of American Art, Carnegie Museum of Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Kitchen, Danspace Project, and Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, among others. González is a 2025 Pew Fellow, a 2024 Herb Alpert Award recipient, and a 2020 Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artists awardee. Their first book, *Ways to Move: Black Insurgent Grammars*, was published by Ugly Duckling Presse in 2025. González is Assistant Professor of Dance and Director of the MFA Program in Dance at Hunter College, CUNY.

As the Associate Artistic Director of the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, he collaborates with Terrie and Bradley Bloom Artistic Director Diane Paulus as a key thought-partner to advance A.R.T.’s mission to expand the boundaries of theater and in creating and sustaining the vision for the A.R.T. Miles serves as a Lecturer on Theater Dance and Media at Harvard University and on the Board of Directors for Artists for Humanity. He was a 2025 ArtLab at Harvard Faculty-in-Residence, a pilot cohort member of A.R.T.’s Arts and Cultural Organization Management program in 2021, and the Blake Anderson Public Service Award in 2018, and a member of the 2015 class of Engage Dallas. Miles received a 2008-2009 Kenny Leon Artistic Fellowship, which initially brought him to the Alliance.
