PRACTICAL THEORY FOR FILMING MOVEMENT, LIGHT, AND SPACE
Joe Turner Lin
Joe Turner Lin, filmmaker and founder of Outside The Frame, a New York-based production company, will introduce the language of film, and the practical aspects of capturing movement. In a world where everyone has a film camera and movie theater in his or her pocket, how can we learn to better map our 3-dimensional stories to a 2-dimensional medium? The class will begin with a discussion on the language of film: how film does—and doesn't—relate to our spatial reality, and how we learned to interpret the grammar of cinema as viewers. It will progress into more practical solutions and visualizations for articulating movement and space, and wrap up with Q&A.

This class is free and open to the public. Due to limited capacity, pre-registration is required to reserve your seat.
